The Coalition of Energy Reforms Lawyers and Activists (CERLA) has accused the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) of attempting to undermine Dangote Refinery’s operations by spreading false information about its fuel pricing.
CERLA spokesperson, Okwa Dan, claimed at a press conference that NNPCL falsely reported that Dangote Refinery sold Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at ₦868 per liter, an alleged ploy to frustrate the refinery’s efforts to address Nigeria’s energy crisis.
Dan criticized NNPCL for its lack of transparency, accusing it of perpetuating fuel subsidy scams and preferring the importation of substandard PMS from abroad.
CERLA condemned the agency for obstructing the operations of local refineries, emphasizing that Dangote Refinery’s success could end NNPCL’s fraudulent activities.
The coalition expressed concerns over NNPCL’s monopoly on Dangote Refinery’s PMS output, suggesting that the agency is determined to maintain control over pricing and distribution to benefit a select few.
CERLA called for greater accountability and transparency in NNPCL’s operations, urging the government to end its corrupt practices that have burdened Nigerians for decades.
