Weeks after federal intervention, the cost of cooking gas has remained high in Abuja, with prices hovering around ₦1,800 per kilogram in most outlets.
A market survey by NAN revealed that roadside retailers continue to sell at steep rates despite assurances from the Federal Government.
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Dr. Ekperikpe Ekpo, attributed the persistent hike to recent disruptions — including a strike at the Dangote Refinery and maintenance at the NLNG Train 4 facility.
He said operations had resumed, with gas loading ongoing from the Bonny River Terminal and other depots.
Retailers, however, insist prices won’t drop until new stock arrives.
Environmentalists warned that prolonged high costs could push households back to firewood and charcoal, undermining clean energy adoption.
They urged government to stabilize supply and make LPG affordable to sustain the shift toward greener cooking alternatives.
