The Kano State Government has voiced strong opposition to the proposed tax reform bills currently under consideration by the National Assembly.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, speaking through his Deputy, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, articulated the state’s position during the 2025 celebrations.
The governor asserted that the proposed tax reforms are not the solution to Nigeria’s economic challenges, stating that Kano State firmly opposes any policy that negatively impacts the welfare of its people.
He commended the resilience of Kano residents in the face of economic hardship, describing the proposed tax hike as ill-timed, lopsided, and detrimental to national unity.
The governor emphasized that Nigerians, particularly in the North, are grappling with hyperinflation and unprecedented insecurity, urging the presidency to prioritize tackling extreme poverty and hunger, especially in the northern region.
Governor Yusuf highlighted his administration’s achievements in healthcare, education, road construction, and foreign scholarship initiatives.
He also referenced the Supreme Court ruling that affirmed his governorship and the reinstatement of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, which he described as a victory for the people’s will.
