NNPC Ltd. Schedules Port Harcourt Refinery Shutdown for Maintenance

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has announced a planned maintenance shutdown of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) beginning May 24, 2025.

In a Saturday statement, NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Femi Soneye, explained that the temporary closure forms part of a sustainability assessment and performance optimization.

NNPC Ltd. is coordinating closely with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and other stakeholders to minimize disruptions to fuel supply.

The shutdown is expected to address critical infrastructure upgrades, equipment overhauls, and safety compliance upgrades.

Soneye assured the public that product distribution logistics are being adjusted to mitigate impact on downstream operations and consumer supplies.

He pledged regular updates through NNPC’s official channels as work progresses, reaffirming the company’s commitment to energy security and efficient refinery operations under its strategic modernization agenda.
