The Federal Government has confirmed the commencement of operations at the Port Harcourt Refining and Petrochemical Company in Rivers State.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, announced that the first phase of work at the facility had been completed.
Refined petroleum products are expected to start flowing from the refinery after the Christmas break.
The government had earlier committed to restarting operations at the Port Harcourt refinery before the end of 2023.
The revitalization of Nigeria’s refineries aims to enhance domestic refining capacity and reduce reliance on imported fuel.
