The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced the resumption of operations at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company, a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to revitalize the nation’s refining capacity.
This development follows the recent restart of the Port Harcourt Refinery and signals a potential turning point in Nigeria’s struggle with fuel shortages and reliance on costly imports.
NNPCL CEO Mele Kyari, during an inspection tour of the facility, confirmed the news, emphasizing the significance of this achievement despite ongoing repairs.
The Warri Refinery, with a daily processing capacity of 125,000 barrels of crude oil, is poised to play a crucial role in boosting domestic fuel production, thereby easing pressure on foreign exchange reserves and potentially leading to more affordable fuel prices for Nigerian consumers.
