The FCT Administration has impounded 40 vehicles and 52 motorcycles in a fresh clampdown on illegal transport operators linked to violent “one chance” robberies.
Mandate Secretary of the FCT Transport Secretariat, Chinedu Elechi, said unpainted and unregistered taxis pose a major security risk to commuters.
While seized bikes will be crushed, vehicles will go through mobile courts.
Authorities also plan to profile all commercial drivers and assign official numbers to taxis for easier identification.
The crackdown, Elechi stressed, will be sustained until unregistered transport operators are eliminated from Abuja’s roads.
