Terrorists suspected to be linked to Boko Haram/ISWAP executed a brazen abduction on the troubled Damaturu–Biu highway near Kamuya village in Borno State on March 2, 2025.
Among the abducted is Professor Abubakar Eljuma, the esteemed Dean of Engineering at Nigeria Army University Biu and a leading contender for the institution’s soon-to-be-appointed Vice-Chancellor.
The incident unfolded when attackers stopped two Golf cars and a Borno Express bus, releasing all female passengers while detaining several males—including the professor.
Kamuya village, located roughly 10 km from Buratai (the hometown of former Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Yusuf Tukur Buratai), has witnessed recurrent episodes of abductions, roadside bombings, and killings over the past decade.
University officials are reportedly holding an urgent meeting to address the crisis, and security sources have earnestly called on the public to pray for the safe return of the victims during this holy month of Ramadan.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident as community leaders express deep concern over the persistent threat posed by extremist groups in the region.
