The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has given Divisional Police Officers in the Abuja metropolis a 14-day deadline to eradicate ‘one chance’ robberies and other security threats.
Commissioner Ahmed Sanusi issued the directive on Friday, warning that any DPO who fails to meet the target will face sanctions.
‘One chance’ gangs, which use unregistered taxis and tricycles to rob unsuspecting passengers, have become a menace in Abuja, causing fear among commuters.
The ultimatum comes after several high-profile incidents and public outcry.
Residents have welcomed the move but remain skeptical, as similar promises have been made in the past with little lasting impact.
Many argue that the police must address underlying issues such as unemployment and poor regulation of public transport.
The command has also deployed undercover operatives and increased patrols in black spots. For ordinary Abuja residents, the measure offers a glimmer of hope for safer streets.
