The Federal Government has issued a stern warning to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, demanding the construction giant accept the N740.7bn price for completing the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway or face contract termination.
During a meeting with Julius Berger’s Executive Director, the Minister of Works, David Umahi, stressed the urgency of signing the revised contract, which has already seen N391bn paid. The road, originally contracted for N165bn, was later revised to N654bn under the Buhari administration and now further adjusted to N740bn due to inflation and economic realities.
Umahi highlighted the importance of timely completion, urging Julius Berger to finalize the remaining 164 kilometers of the project within 14 months.
The government is prepared to offer fresh mobilization funds, emphasizing that President Tinubu prioritizes the project’s completion.
Failure to comply with the agreed terms, however, could lead to immediate contract revocation. The Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway is a critical infrastructure project vital to Nigeria’s economic and security landscape.
