At least five people have died, and nine others were rescued after two buildings collapsed during heavy rainfall in different parts of Kano State on Saturday.
The first incident occurred at Gaida Sabon Titi, along Salbas Filling Station Road in Kumbotso Local Government Area, where a two-storey building gave way.
The second collapse happened in another part of the state, compounding the tragedy. Rescue operations were launched immediately, with emergency services working through the night to pull survivors from the rubble.
The victims were mostly residents who were caught unaware by the sudden downpour. The state government has expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and promised to investigate the cause of the collapses.
However, residents have blamed poor building standards and a lack of enforcement of construction regulations.
This incident highlights the recurring problem of building collapses in Nigeria, often due to substandard materials and negligence.
As the rainy season continues, there are fears of more such tragedies unless urgent measures are taken to ensure building safety.
