A cargo airplane operated by Allied Air Cargo veered off Runway 22 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Wednesday morning, causing significant disruptions to flight schedules.
According to the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the incident occurred at 10:05 am and involved an aircraft with registration number 5N-JRT.
The plane had five crew members on board, all of whom were safely evacuated without injury and taken to the FAAN clinic for further evaluation.
The FAAN spokesperson, Obiageli Orah, reassured the public that the airport’s emergency response team promptly managed the situation.
She added that efforts are underway to clear the runway, which is expected to reopen shortly. NCAA’s Director of Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, urged passengers to remain patient, warning of possible delays as operations resume.
FAAN also appealed for calm, asking the public to avoid speculation until the Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) releases a preliminary report.
Meanwhile, flight operations at the airport remain partially grounded as investigations continue.
