The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched a new campaign targeting road safety during Nigeria’s high-risk “ember months.”
At a two-day workshop in Abuja, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed urged a collaborative effort to reduce road fatalities, especially among the youth, for whom road accidents are the leading cause of death.
This year’s campaign, themed “Retooling FRSC for Organizational Effectiveness,” includes stricter law enforcement, expanded public education, and greater involvement of passengers in reporting reckless driving.
The FRSC aims to host town hall meetings, motorcades, and transit stops nationwide, promoting a “safety-first” culture and encouraging drivers and passengers alike to take an active role in preventing accidents.
FRSC Public Education Officer Olusegun Ogungbemide emphasized the importance of passenger awareness and the unique approach of this year’s campaign, which aims to make Nigerian roads safer through active stakeholder participation.
