A gas explosion at Tasiu Gas Plant, adjacent to Kalasma Filling Station in Sabon Wuse, Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State, has resulted in significant property damage, including the destruction of vehicles and shops along the Kaduna Expressway.
Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Baba Arah, confirmed the explosion on Sunday, emphasizing that while the incident caused extensive material loss, fortunately, no lives were lost.
Arah described the explosion as sudden and forceful, with fire rapidly engulfing nearby structures. Emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to the scene to contain the blaze and assess the damage.
The incident comes barely a month after a major petroleum tanker explosion at Dikko Junction on the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, further highlighting the ongoing challenges of managing energy-related infrastructure in the state.
Local authorities are now investigating the cause of the explosion and urging residents to exercise caution while emergency crews continue to secure the area.
This latest disaster underscores the pressing need for enhanced safety measures and rigorous monitoring of fuel storage and distribution facilities across Niger State.
