The Kano State Hisbah Board says it has stopped an alleged same-sex marriage in the city, arresting 25 suspects during a weekend operation.
Deputy Commander General (Special Operations) Sheikh Mujahid Aminuddeen Abubakar said the raid followed a tip-off about a planned marriage between two men at an event centre in Hotoro, Tarauni Local Government Area.
“Upon arrival, our personnel discovered young men and women celebrating under dim lights. It was confirmed to be a planned same-sex union,” Abubakar stated.
Eighteen cross-dressers and seven women were arrested and are being investigated before possible prosecution. Hisbah urged parents to instill moral discipline in their children and report immoral acts to authorities.
The agency reiterated its mandate to safeguard Islamic values and social order in Kano State, warning against behaviour that contravenes religious and cultural norms.
