The Kebbi State Police Command has launched a statewide operation to enforce third-party motor insurance, following a direct order from Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
The enforcement drive, which commenced on February 1, 2025, aims to ensure that all vehicle owners secure mandatory insurance coverage and enhance overall road safety.
According to CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the command’s spokesperson, the initiative is being closely monitored by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, who is personally supervising compliance efforts in the state capital. “Area Commanders have been instructed to implement similar measures within their jurisdictions,” Abubakar added.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, emphasized that third-party insurance is essential not only as a legal requirement but also as a critical safeguard for both motorists and road users in the event of accidents. He urged vehicle owners to update their policies promptly to avoid sanctions.
The operation forms part of the Nigeria Police Force’s broader strategy to regulate road usage, mitigate financial risks from accidents, and promote a culture of responsible driving.
CSP Abubakar reassured residents that the measure is designed in the public interest and called on citizens to cooperate fully with law enforcement officers.
