A Muslim organisation, Al-Harakatul-Islamiyyah, has demanded the immediate release of Ramzy Abu Ibrahim, a Palestinian resident of Nigeria, detained under unclear circumstances.
Addressing journalists in Ilorin, the group’s leader, Mallam Abdur-Razzaq Al-Ameen, alleged that the arrest was influenced by Israel under the Nigeria-Israel Security and Intelligence Pact. He described the detention as unconstitutional, insensitive, and a threat to Nigeria’s sovereignty.
The group noted that Abu Ibrahim has lived peacefully in Nigeria for over 30 years and has been active in mobilising support for Palestinians. They accused the Tinubu administration of “serving Tel Aviv’s interests” at the expense of domestic priorities.
Al-Ameen warned that detaining Abu Ibrahim could alienate Nigeria’s Muslim population, calling the move diplomatically reckless and politically dangerous. He likened the Palestinian struggle to South Africa’s anti-apartheid fight, recalling Nigeria’s role in supporting liberation movements in the 1970s.
The group urged Nigerians to pressure government for his release and demanded a review of security ties with Israel. Abu Ibrahim was reportedly arrested in Abuja by operatives of the Anti-Terrorism Squad.
