The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has issued a warning that 19 states, including Delta, Ondo, and Sokoto, as well as 56 communities nationwide, are at risk of heavy rainfall and possible flooding in August. NEMA revealed that certain communities, such as Aboh in Delta State and Ado-Ekiti, Akure, and Idanre in Ondo State, are among those likely to be affected.
Ibrahim Farinloye, NEMA Lagos Territorial Coordinator, highlighted this potential threat in a statement. He emphasized that both local and state authorities need to be proactive in preparing for possible flooding and urged individuals to take precautions, such as avoiding driving or walking through floodwaters.
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) recently forecasted cloudy conditions, rainfall, and thunderstorms for three days across the country. NiMet cautioned airlines to stay updated with weather reports and alerts from the agency to ensure the safety and effectiveness of their operations.
NiMet also warned that moderate to heavy rainfall could lead to flash floods and recommended that disaster management agencies and individuals take preventive measures during the rainy season to prevent loss of lives and property.
