The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed 5,500 personnel across Ekiti State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Commandant General Ahmed Audi warned officers to remain neutral and avoid any partisan conduct, stressing that the credibility of the election depends on security agencies’ impartiality.
The deployment covers all 2,445 polling units in the state’s 16 local government areas. The NSCDC will work alongside the police, army, and other agencies to ensure a peaceful exercise.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has moved sensitive materials to local government areas under heavy security.
The election pits incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the APC against candidates from the PDP, SDP, and others.
Voters are anxious but hopeful that the process will be free and fair, amid concerns over vote-buying and intimidation. Many Ekiti residents are watching closely, as the outcome may shape political alignments ahead of 2027.
