The Plateau State Government has declared what it calls a “state of war against terrorists and enemies of the state” following a series of coordinated attacks that have claimed dozens of lives over the past four months.
The declaration came after an emergency meeting of the State Security Council in Jos. Governor Caleb Mutfwang announced immediate measures, including a ban on night mining and underage grazing, which he said fuel insecurity.
He also directed security agencies to intensify patrols and intelligence gathering in affected communities. The governor visited Nding community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, where the latest assault occurred, to commiserate with victims and families.
He vowed that the government would not relent until peace is fully restored. Residents have expressed cautious optimism, urging authorities to match words with decisive action.
The development highlights the growing security challenge in North-Central Nigeria, where banditry and farmer-herder clashes continue to threaten lives and livelihoods.
