The Senate has issued a warrant for Julius Berger Nigeria Plc’s Managing Director, Dr. Peer Lubasch, following his repeated failure to attend committee hearings on public works.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the decision, citing non-compliance as contempt of parliament.
The company is accused of abandoning the Odukpani-Itu Highway project after inflating its cost from ₦54 billion to ₦195 billion. Despite receiving over ₦18 billion for the project, Julius Berger demobilized and disregarded revised terms.
The Senate invoked its constitutional authority to compel Lubasch’s appearance and investigate mismanagement of public funds.
While some senators supported immediate enforcement, others called for a more measured approach.
The resolution mandates the Committee on Works to probe further into Julius Berger’s contracts and other national projects, aiming for accountability and transparency.
