Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has inaugurated the Ogun State chapter of the Iru Ekun Security Network.
The community-based initiative aims to support efforts to tackle insecurity across the South-West. At the launch on Wednesday, Igboho outlined plans for training, discipline, and collaboration with government authorities.
He emphasised the need for local communities to take an active role in safeguarding their neighbourhoods. The network is expected to work alongside existing security agencies, providing intelligence and support.
Igboho’s move comes amid growing concerns about rising crime rates in the region. While some have welcomed the initiative, others have expressed caution about the involvement of non-state actors in security matters.
The activist, however, insists that the network will operate within the law and complement government efforts. The launch was attended by a large crowd, indicating significant public support.
