Security operatives in Abuja have successfully apprehended a suspect wanted in connection with kidnapping activities.
The arrest took place at the FCT Hajj Camp during the screening process for intending pilgrims bound for Saudi Arabia.
According to security sources, the suspect, identified as Yahaya Zango from Paikon-Kore in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT, had been on the wanted list for his alleged involvement in several kidnapping incidents.
He was reportedly attempting to travel for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage when he was intercepted by operatives.
The suspect presented his passport alongside other intending pilgrims from Abuja. Eagle-eyed security personnel identified and apprehended him during the routine screening at the Hajj camp near the airport.
A senior official at the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board confirmed the arrest. The suspect is believed to have been evading security agencies following a manhunt.
While the FCT Police Command spokesperson noted that the arrest was carried out by the DSS, official confirmation from the DSS was pending at the time of the report.
