18 Governors Under Watch, EFCC Boss, Olukoyede Claims

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede has claimed that 18 serving governors are under active investigation by the anti-graft agency.

Speaking in Lagos at a sensitisation programme on naira abuse, Olukoyede said the EFCC does not wait until governors leave office before initiating probes.

He recalled how one former governor, under investigation while in office, fled to the UK a day after handing over power and was later arrested for spraying pounds during his birthday celebration.

Olukoyede recounted that hotel staff thought the ex-governor was mentally unstable due to his behaviour and called the police.

The EFCC boss noted that the agency has already commenced detailed investigations and will take further steps once these governors conclude their tenures.

He emphasized that no one is above the law and assured that the EFCC would continue to combat financial crimes without fear or favour.

His revelation underscores the commission’s ongoing efforts to strengthen accountability and curb corruption among Nigeria’s political elite.
