Over 5,000 contractors under the “Concerned Contractors Owed by the Federal Government” have pleaded with President Tinubu and the National Assembly to urgently intervene over non-payment for completed capital projects since 2023.
During a press briefing in Abuja, convener Jackson Nwosu described the financial distress as “inhuman,” stating that many members have lost their lives, suffered asset seizures, and are unable to pay staff or medical bills.
Flanked by other executives, Nwosu said the delay violates the Public Procurement Act, which mandates payments only for budget-backed contracts. “We fulfilled our obligations. The government must fulfill theirs,” he declared.
The contractors observed a minute’s silence for deceased colleagues and chanted, “All we are saying, pay us our money!”
Backing their demand, Chief Princewill Okorie of the Association for Public Policy Analysis called on legislators to probe the delay, warning that unpaid capital projects undermine critical infrastructure development.
“If this continues, it risks derailing the Renewed Hope Agenda and Nigeria’s constitutional promise to prioritize citizens’ welfare,” he said.
The group urged swift action to prevent further economic damage and loss of confidence in public procurement.
