60 Million Nigerians Gamble Daily, Reveals Cross Rivers Lottery DG

Michael Eja, the Director-General of the Cross Rivers State Lottery and Gaming Agency, has revealed that an estimated 60 million Nigerians engage in gambling daily, making it a booming industry in the country.

Speaking at the launch of the Woskybet sports betting platform, Eja highlighted that the gambling sector is valued between N500 billion and N600 billion, yet 90% of its potential market remains untapped.

Eja pointed to the industry’s role in wealth redistribution and job creation, noting that it offers both hope and opportunity for many Nigerians. The event emphasized the growing importance of responsible gambling, as Woskybet assured bettors of secure and guaranteed payouts.

The DG’s comments come amid increasing government efforts to regulate and benefit from the sector, with Lagos State alone generating over $240 million from gambling revenue in 2023.

As the industry continues to expand, its impact on both the economy and job creation is becoming more significant, making gambling a key player in Nigeria’s future economic landscape.
