Abuja Light Rail Offers Free Rides Until December, Says Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu announced that the Abuja Rail Mass Transit system will provide free rides to commuters until the end of 2024.

This announcement was made during the official launch of the light rail project in Abuja, marking Tinubu’s first year in office.

Tinubu praised Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, calling him “Mr. Project,” for timely delivery of the project. Initially, the FCT team had proposed two months of free rides, but Tinubu extended this until year-end to boost public morale.

The Abuja light rail project, developed in six phases and funded by loans from China EXIM Bank, was initially commissioned by former President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2018.
Operations were suspended due to vandalism but have now resumed under the new administration.
