The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the mass killing of residents in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, describing the incident as stark evidence of the Federal Government’s inability to secure lives and property under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the killing of about 170 people in the affected communities exposed what it called a total collapse of Nigeria’s internal security architecture.
The ADC questioned the effectiveness of the President’s much-publicised declaration of a state of emergency on security in November 2025, as well as the promised large-scale recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force, noting that persistent mass killings suggest the measures have either failed or were never fully implemented.
According to the party, the frequency and scale of violent attacks across the country indicate that the government’s approach to insecurity is not eliminating terrorism but merely shifting it from one region to another.
The party also raised concerns that last year’s heightened security posture, following comments by the United States President, may have been driven more by the desire to impress international observers than by a genuine commitment to protecting Nigerians.
Describing the Kwara killings as one of the worst atrocities in recent times, the ADC said the tragedy highlights deep failures in intelligence gathering, border control, inter-agency coordination and emergency response.
It concluded that a government unable to safeguard its citizens has failed in its most fundamental responsibility.
