African military chiefs have resolved to strengthen regional security frameworks, intelligence sharing, and joint operations as key tools to defeat terrorism, trafficking, and cybercrime.
The resolution was announced at the end of the maiden African Chiefs of Defence Staff Summit in Abuja, hosted by Nigeria’s CDS, General Christopher Musa.
He warned that Africa’s porous borders remain the biggest enabler of insecurity. “Terrorism anywhere in Africa is a threat to peace everywhere,” Musa said, stressing the need for integrated frameworks and regional action.
Discussions focused on defence collaboration, joint training, indigenous technology, and youth engagement. Leaders also explored using artificial intelligence for early warning and situational awareness.
Musa said the summit fostered professional bonds among defence chiefs, enhancing operational synergy. He urged participants to move beyond rhetoric: “Let us translate our recommendations into strategies and joint action.”
The summit also announced an international defence exhibition in Lagos next year to showcase capabilities and expand partnerships.
