Amnesty International has urged the Nigerian government to join the international community in strongly condemning the ongoing Israeli bombardment of civilians in Gaza.
During the launch of its latest report, “You Feel Like You Are Subhuman: Israel’s Genocide Against Palestinians in Gaza,” in Kano, Amnesty International Nigeria called upon the Nigerian government to take a firm stand against the atrocities being committed in Gaza.
Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, Chairperson of Amnesty International Nigeria’s Board of Trustees, emphasized Nigeria’s leadership role in Africa and its moral obligation to advocate for the protection of Palestinian civilians.
“Nigeria has no excuse not to show solidarity against these atrocities committed against women and children,” Rafsanjani stated, further urging other African nations to join in this call for action.
The report, which details the devastating impact of the Israeli offensive, documents alleged war crimes and potential acts of genocide, including mass killings, the deliberate targeting of civilians, and the destruction of critical infrastructure.
Amnesty International reports that over 42,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 97,000 injured since the conflict began, with children bearing the brunt of the violence.
Rafsanjani sharply criticized the international community’s inaction, condemning the continued supply of arms to Israel by nations like the United States and Germany as a violation of their obligations to prevent genocide.
He stressed the urgent need for decisive action to halt these atrocities, urging governments to move beyond mere expressions of regret and take concrete steps to end the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The event in Kano served as a platform to amplify calls for immediate global action and raise awareness about the plight of the Palestinian people.
