The Court of Appeal in Abuja has overturned contempt proceedings initiated by former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello against EFCC Chairman Olanipekun Olukoyede.
In a unanimous decision, the three-judge panel, led by Justice A.M. Talba, ruled that the high court’s procedural errors invalidated the contempt charges. The appellate court also imposed a N1 million cost against Bello.
This ruling follows a stay of proceedings granted by the appellate court, addressing the EFCC’s appeal against actions deemed contemptuous by the Kogi State High Court.
The decision underscores the necessity of adhering to legal protocols in contempt cases, ultimately favoring the EFCC’s position.
