Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on the Federal Government to explain the International Monetary Fund’s allegation that two percent of Nigeria’s GDP is unaccounted for in public expenditure.
Atiku described the missing funds as a national embarrassment and demanded an immediate, transparent investigation.
In a statement, he questioned how such a significant portion of the economy could vanish without trace under the watch of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Atiku urged anti-corruption agencies to step in, warning that the IMF’s finding points to systemic graft.
The former presidential candidate also challenged the government to publish a detailed breakdown of spending.
Economic experts say the missing two percent translates to billions of naira that could have been used for infrastructure, health, and education. Nigerians are growing increasingly frustrated as the cost of living soars.
