Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, has challenged President Bola Tinubu to clarify the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s (NNPCL) $3.3 billion crude repayment loan.
Atiku raised concerns about transparency, urging Tinubu to provide details on the loan, facilitated by the African Export-Import Bank.
The loan, aimed at stabilizing the foreign exchange market, saw $2.25 billion received by the Federal Government.
Atiku criticized the lack of public information and highlights a Special Purpose Vehicle named Project Gazelle Funding Limited, incorporated in the Bahamas, handling the deal.
He questions the government on loan conditions, repayment terms, and the decision to register the SPV in the Bahamas.
Atiku emphasizes the need for the Federal Government to address the apparent discrepancies in the deal, calling for transparency and accountability.
