Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, has raised concerns over a suspicious payment into one of his private bank accounts, alleging a possible breach of his confidential banking information.
Atiku’s media aide, Phrank Shaibu, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the account received a transfer from an individual or entity unknown to the former Vice President.
The payment reportedly carried the narration, “Contribution Electioneering Campaign.”
According to Shaibu, neither Atiku nor his campaign authorised, solicited or had any knowledge of the payment.
He questioned how details of a strictly private bank account, which are not publicly available, could have been obtained by an unknown person.
The former Vice President’s camp said the incident raises serious concerns about financial privacy and the possible misuse of confidential information.
It warned that unauthorised access to such details could expose individuals to fraudsters, kidnappers and other criminal networks.
Atiku’s camp has consequently alerted relevant security agencies and called for the circumstances surrounding the transaction to be investigated.
The development comes amid growing political tensions ahead of the 2027 elections. Shaibu described the incident as part of what he called suspicious activities targeting opposition figures, urging Nigerians not to be distracted by alleged attempts at character assassination.
The former Vice President, he said, remains focused on his political campaign and his promise to provide Nigerians with an alternative leadership.
