The Bauchi State Government has declared Friday, November 28, a work-free day in honour of prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi, who died on Thursday.
Governor Bala Mohammed approved the decision to allow residents, students and workers across public and private sectors to participate fully in the funeral rites of the revered cleric.
According to a statement by Mukhtar Gidado, the governor’s media adviser, the funeral prayer will hold by 3 p.m. at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi.
The state government described the late scholar as a moral pillar and respected voice whose teachings influenced generations across northern Nigeria.
Dahiru Bauchi, known for his scholarship, Qur’anic commentary, and decades-long religious leadership, commanded a large following within the Tijjaniyya sect.
His death has triggered widespread tributes from clerics, traditional leaders, political figures, and students of Islamic learning.
The work-free declaration is expected to ease movement and enable thousands to attend the final rites. The state government urged residents to use the day for reflection, prayers and sober remembrance of the respected teacher whose contributions, it said, shaped spiritual growth and peaceful coexistence in the region.
