Bauchi Governor Criticizes FG Policies, Calls for Urgent Review

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has urged the Federal Government to reassess its fiscal and monetary policies, claiming they have failed to alleviate poverty and unemployment.

Speaking at the World Bank’s Nigeria Development Update in Abuja, Mohammed noted that inflation and dwindling purchasing power are worsening living conditions across the country. He warned that if the situation continues, citizens’ frustrations could escalate into unrest.

Mohammed acknowledged the rise in state revenues but expressed concern over deficits in power and infrastructure. Despite these challenges, he said Bauchi State has increased its earnings by blocking revenue leakages.

The governor also stated that while Bauchi continues to pay the N33,000 minimum wage, a committee has been established to review the state’s ability to implement the new wage structure.
He appealed to the Federal Government to implement policies that would positively impact the population, adding that failure to do so could jeopardize national stability.
