In a startling development in Anambra State, popular celebrity native doctor Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki n’Oba has been apprehended by Agunechemba, a local security outfit, in the Oba area of Idemili South.
The arrest, confirmed by a post on Soludo TV, comes amid allegations that the doctor provided mystical charms to criminals masquerading as Yahoo boys and kidnappers.
According to the report, security agents detained him on Saturday evening for further investigation over claims that he prepared charms believed to offer protection and financial gain to perpetrators of online fraud and kidnapping.
The incident has heightened concerns about the proliferation of such practices in the state, prompting the government to enact the Anambra State Homeland Security Law in 2025.
Under the new law, native doctors found involved in the preparation or administration of charms like ‘Odeshi,’ ‘Okeite,’ and ‘Mkpu Egbe’ now face strict penalties, including up to six years in prison, a fine of N20 million, or both.
Authorities have vowed to target anyone who publicly promotes or engages in these practices, ensuring that superstition is not used to facilitate criminality in the state.
