Buhari Defends Tenure, Citing Major Economic and Security Gains

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has defended his eight-year tenure, asserting that Nigeria’s economy and security underwent significant improvements under his watch.
Speaking on Wednesday at his country home in Daura, Katsina State, Buhari received members of the Katsina State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists.
He reflected on the myriad challenges inherited from the previous PDP-led government in 2015—challenges that ranged from terrorism to severe economic distress.
Buhari noted, “Nigeria’s security and economy improved significantly under my administration compared to what we met in 2015.” He recalled the turbulent security landscape and the dire state of the economy when he assumed office and explained how strategic interventions and reforms led to stabilization and growth.
The former president expressed confidence that the progress made during his tenure would have enduring benefits for the country. “Things will continue to improve in Nigeria,” he affirmed, hinting at his belief that his policies laid a solid foundation for future administrations.
