Court Declines to Halt Trial of Ex-Governor Bello

The Federal High Court in Abuja has refused to stop the trial of former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, on a 19-count money laundering charge.

Bello’s legal team sought to suspend the trial, arguing that the Court of Appeal was reviewing related issues. However, Justice Emeka Nwite ruled against the stay, citing legal provisions that prevent halting criminal proceedings.

The court also referred Bello’s lawyers to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee for misconduct. Bello is accused of laundering over N80.2 billion alongside his nephew and two others.
