The Federal High Court in Abuja has admitted former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai to bail in the sum of N100 million, imposing stringent conditions in the ongoing national security breach case.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ruled on Monday that El-Rufai must deposit all his valid international passports with the court registry and present a surety of the same amount.
The Department of State Services (DSS) had re-arraigned El-Rufai over allegations of tapping the National Security Adviser’s phone, a case that has drawn significant political attention.
The former governor, who was brought to court under heavy security, pleaded not guilty. His legal team argued that the charges were politically motivated, while the prosecution insisted on the gravity of the alleged breach.
The bail conditions also include restrictions on travel and regular reporting to the DSS. This development comes amid heightened political tensions ahead of the 2027 elections, with many watching how the case unfolds.
