The Federal High Court in Abuja has warned the Federal Government against further delays in the ongoing trial of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, which has dragged on for nearly a decade.
Justice James Omotosho, now presiding over the case, fixed six dates between May and June for the prosecution to close its case.
At Thursday’s session, Kanu’s lawyers completed cross-examination of a DSS witness identified only as “BBB,” who testified behind a screen for security reasons.
The witness labeled the Eastern Security Network (ESN), allegedly established by Kanu, as an illegal group, unlike Amotekun, which is recognized by law.
The defense introduced several pieces of evidence, including a Lagos #EndSARS panel report and video clips featuring DSS Director General, Imo Governor Uzodimma, and former Army Chief Gen. T.Y. Danjuma, all calling for community involvement in security.
Kanu, re-arrested in Kenya in 2021 and currently in DSS custody, faces a seven-count terrorism charge.
Justice Omotosho emphasized the need for an expedited trial, scheduling hearings for May 28–29 and June 6, 16, 18, and 19.
