The Defence Headquarters has announced the conclusion of investigations into 16 officers of the Armed Forces accused of serious acts of indiscipline, including allegations bordering on an attempted coup, with those indicted set to face a special military court-martial.
The Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, confirming that the Special Investigative Panel constituted by the military had completed its assignment in line with established procedures and service regulations.
The officers were arrested in October 2025 following concerns over conduct described as incompatible with the ethics, values and professional standards of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. According to Uba, the probe examined all circumstances surrounding the actions of the personnel and identified those with cases to answer.
He stressed that the process is strictly an internal disciplinary measure aimed at preserving discipline, cohesion and operational effectiveness within the military ranks, not a political exercise.
The Defence Headquarters reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to professionalism, loyalty and respect for constitutional authority, assuring Nigerians that due process and fairness would guide the court-martial proceedings.
Those to be tried reportedly include senior and mid-level officers drawn from the Army, Navy and Air Force, cutting across the Infantry, Signals and Ordnance Corps.
