The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen.
Taoreed Lagbaja, is in good health and currently on a well-deserved vacation. This clarification came amidst rumors surrounding his health and speculations of an acting COAS appointment.
In a statement released by DHQ spokesman Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, it was noted that no acting COAS had been appointed, and all service chiefs, including Lagbaja, were performing their constitutional duties effectively.
The DHQ urged the public to dismiss unfounded rumors and warned against the spread of misinformation. The statement further stressed the Armed Forces’ commitment to supporting democratic governance and the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
It also warned those advocating for unconstitutional change in government, labeling such actions as treason. The DHQ reiterated that the military remains focused on its responsibilities and upholding peace across Nigeria.
