The Department of State Services (DSS) has taken over the Abuja office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), sparking outrage from the organization.
SERAP described the occupation as illegal and called for immediate intervention from President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement on its X handle, SERAP revealed that DSS officers demanded to meet with the organization’s directors. SERAP accused the agency of harassment and intimidation, urging Tinubu to stop the assault on citizens’ rights.
This incident occurred shortly after SERAP petitioned Tinubu to direct the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to reverse a controversial petrol price hike, which the group labeled unconstitutional.
SERAP has vowed to continue its advocacy against what it views as government overreach and violation of rights.
