The Department of State Services will arraign former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai on February 25 over alleged cybercrime and national security breaches.
According to court filings, El-Rufai is accused of unlawfully intercepting communications linked to National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, in violation of the Cybercrimes Act and the Nigerian Communications Act. The charges stem from statements he allegedly made during a television interview.
The case, assigned to Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, adds to a series of legal battles involving the former governor, who has also faced corruption investigations by anti-graft agencies.
Security analysts say the trial could test Nigeria’s cybercrime enforcement framework and raise broader questions about privacy, surveillance and political accountability.
