The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has charged the World Bank and IMF with hindering Nigeria’s public education system.
ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, stated during the Heroes Day event in Abuja that the 2009 ASUU-FGN agreement remains stalled despite numerous attempts at renegotiation.
He highlighted that the imposition of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS), despite plans for its removal, further complicates public university administration.
Additionally, ASUU members continue to face withheld salaries and unpaid allowances. The union announced plans to award Ph.D. grants worth N500,000 to members in various universities as part of its commitment to academic growth. Osodeke commended members for their steadfastness and condemned what he termed the punitive actions against ASUU members in state universities.
The union emphasized its ongoing struggle to defend public education against external influences, vowing to continue advocacy for fair agreements and better conditions for its members and students.
