ASUU Issues 21-Day Strike Notice Over Unmet Demands

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has given the Federal Government a 21-day strike notice, citing unimplemented agreements.

ASUU’s National Executive Council confirmed the decision following a meeting at the University of Ibadan. The union aims to comply with labour laws by issuing the notice before any potential strike action.

Key demands include implementing the renegotiated 2009 agreements, paying accumulated academic allowances, and addressing the revitalization fund shortfall.

ASUU President Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke expressed concern over the government’s failure to fulfill commitments made in previous negotiations.

The Education Minister recently met with ASUU to discuss these issues and avert a strike. However, the union remained unsatisfied with the progress, prompting this latest warning to the government.
