The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Nsukka zone has rejected the emergence of a new Integrated Personnel 7and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) and demanded compliance with the Federal Executive Council (FEC) directive to remove universities from IPPIS.
ASUU’s rejection comes after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the immediate removal of universities from IPPIS, a move previously received with delight by the union.
Zonal Coordinator Raphael Amokaha expressed concern over the delay in implementing the FEC directive and questioned the emergence of a ‘new IPPIS.’
ASUU emphasized that IPPIS violates university autonomy and serves as a conduit for siphoning public funds. They urged the government to adopt the homegrown payment software, University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS), developed by ASUU.
Additionally, ASUU demanded full payment of salaries owed to university staff, highlighting their dissatisfaction with receiving only four out of eight months owed since their return from the 2022 strike.
