The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Abuja chapter, has vehemently opposed the advertisement for the institution’s Vice Chancellor position, alleging a breach of relevant laws.
ASUU Chairperson Dr. Sylvanus Ugoh denounced the advertisement, stating that only the Governing Council has the authority to appoint a substantive vice chancellor.
He emphasized that the advertorial contravened established laws and urged intending applicants to refrain from applying until due process is followed.
ASUU criticized the Federal Government’s actions, lamenting their negative impact on university administration.
Meanwhile, the union also condemned the illegal appointments of acting Deans and Provosts and highlighted concerns over staff recruitment without due process.
ASUU called on the Minister of Education to withdraw the advert in compliance with existing laws governing the University of Abuja.
