The Federal High Court in Abuja has summoned the Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof. Rasheed Na’Allah, to appear on June 13 to explain why the inauguration of newly elected Governing Council members should not be halted.
The summons follows a suit filed by six aggrieved senior lecturers challenging the legitimacy of the council elections conducted on May 28.
The plaintiffs, represented by their counsel Maxwell Opara, sought several interim injunctions to maintain the status quo and prevent the recognition and inauguration of the newly elected council members.
They alleged that the election was conducted despite an ongoing court case, which they argued should render the election results void.
Justice Inyang Ekwo ordered the plaintiffs to notify the defendants of the motion and scheduled a hearing for June 13 to the defendants to respond.
This legal dispute underscores ongoing tensions within the university’s governance and the broader challenges of administrative and procedural integrity in Nigerian higher education institutions.
